Poet, former MP Bekal Utsahi passes away

Former Congress Rajya Sabha MP and renowned poet Bekal Utsahi passed away at a city hospital in the wee hours today following brain haemmorhage.
He was admitted on December 1 at RML hospital following brain haemmorhage, said a doctor.

Utsahi was born on July 19, 1930, in Gaur Ramwapur village of Balrampur district.
He was awarded Padma Shri by the then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed. In 2015 the Uttar Pradesh government awarded him Yash Bharti.
The 'Utsahi' title was given to him in 1951 by the then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru in a 'mushaira' gathering where he was reciting a poem.
