Refugees from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), who were displaced during the Partition, today paid tributes to those killed in attacks by Pakistan.
A large number of PoK refugees today gathered at Mahesh Pura Chowk and paid rich tributes to the PoK residents, who were killed by the "Pakistani raiders in 1947 and 1965".
"Today we gathered here to pay tributes to the people who were killed by the Pakistani raiders in 1947. We also paid tributes to our fellow people who were killed by the Pakistani army in the 1965 and 1971 wars," PoK refugee leader Rashpal Singh said.
He said that more than 50,000 PoK residents in the Mirpur area were brutally killed by the Pakistani raiders and the Pakistan army.
Singh also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sanctioning a Rs 2,000-crore package for one-time settlement of the PoK refugees.
"We are thankful to the Prime Minister for the rehabilitation package. Though there are some lacunae in the package but we are sure that the government would look into it and address all the concerns of the PoK refugees," Singh said.
