A Delhi Police constable allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself due to "mental harassment" by his in-laws in south Delhi's Lado Sarai area, police said today.
40-year-old Subhash, posted at Saket police station, was found hanging in his home yesterday around 7.30 PM in Lado Sarai, where he was staying with his brothers, said a senior police officer.
In a purported suicide note by him, Subhash has alleged that he was facing "mental harassment" from his in-laws, residents of Malviya Nagar, and it was because of the harassment that he was committing suicide, added the officer.
Police suspected that the cop took the extreme step as he had gone to meet his six-year-old son but he wasn't allowed to meet him due to which he was depressed.
Subhash was living separately from his wife for the last two-and-a-half years owing to some marital discord. She had accused him of cruelty and a case under section 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) IPC had been registered against him on a complaint by his wife, police said.
Subhash had made attempts to reconcile with his wife but his in-laws thwarted his attempts, said the officer.
"A case under section 306 (abetment of suicide)IPC has been registered at the Saket police station and further investigation is underway," added the officer.
