A police constable has been allegedly thrashed by a group of men in inebriated state for objecting to their dangerous driving in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj.
The incident happened on late Monday night when Vishal Sharma, Navjyot Sehrawat, Harish Lohia and Yatin Norang - all aged 23 - were returning after celebrating Harish's birthday, said Chinmoy Biswal, additional DCP-I (South).
The four were in inebriated state, Biswal said.
Constable Mohd Alam, who was on picket duty with constables Prithwiraj and Sushil at Masudpur near Malik Hotel, warned the three men and the driver against dangerous driving after they almost had hit a police barricade, he said.
Following the argument, they thrashed Alam, who sustained injuries on his left knee, and abused the other constables, he said.
After the incident, the accused managed to flee the spot.
However, the policemen noted down the vehicle number and later they were traced and arrested.
A case under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC was registered at Vasant Kunj South police station.
