Punjab police today dismissed an Inspector who along with his junior team was held responsible for the death of life convict Bikramjit Singh in police custody.
A K Mittal, DIG, said that Inspector Narang Singh, posted at Batala, has been dismissed from service invoking relevant provisions due to his alleged involvement in the case which was registered against him under various Sections of the IPC earlier.
The Inspector was accused of kidnapping and keeping life convict Bikramjit Singh in police custody illegally without following the lawful procedure.
Meanwhile, Gurpreet Singh Gill, SSP, Amritsar (rural) has also dismissed constables Amandeep Singh and Lakhwinder Singh in the kidnapping case of Bikramjit Singh.
On May 15, Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh declared Bikramjit dead after he died during police interrogation.
Bikramjit was undergoing life imprisonment for the last one decade in the Amritsar Central Jail and had been counted as missing for the last two weeks as he was whisked away by the group of policemen.
Aulakh had told mediapersons earlier that Bikramjit was whisked away by the Batala police without following the lawful procedure, interrogated inhumanly whereupon he died in custody.
It was police team led by Inspector Narang Singh who laid the trap, whisked away Bikramjit to Batala town where he was interrogated throughout the night and died during torture in police custody, the Amritsar police investigation had found out.
Aulakh further said, in an attempt to destroy vital evidence, body of Bikramjit was thrown in the Bhakra river near Ropar. Police station Kiratpur (Ropar) had found the body floating in the river and cremated it when nobody came forward to claim.
