Police lathicharge anganwadi workers

Police today lathicharged anganwadi workers when they tried to lay a siege to Krishna district collectorate over their pending demands including non-payment of salaries.
While some workers sustained injuries in the police action, a few fainted during the scuffle.
The incident occurred in afternoon when around 700 workers of various anganwadis in the district resorted to a sit-in at the gate of collector's office.
The workers raised slogans alleging that state government has withheld their monthly emoluments.
When the workers tried to gatecrash and gherao the office, the police lathicharged them.
Police also detained their leaders.
