Police on high alert, security beefed up in national capital

With the New Year celebrations round the corner and a bomb blast in Bengaluru, police in the national capital is on high alert and security has been stepped in the city to thwart any untoward incidence.
Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi today assured the residents and sought their cooperation, saying he has taken Bengaluru blast very seriously and asked his officers to review the security arrangements.
"We also want to ensure people of Delhi that we are taking all security measures and there is no need to panic. People should also remain alert regarding any suspected person or activity," he said.

People have been asked to report any suspicious activities on terror helpline number 1090.
Bassi has instructed Special Cell and Crime Branch to further strengthen the intelligence system and keep tab on movement of suspected individuals.
Local police has been instructed to keep a tight vigil and ensure that every anti-terrorism measures were in place.

Following an intelligence input that terrorists can target 5-star hotels in the city, SWAT teams have been stationed outside premier hotels while special measures were already in place to guard city schools after the terror attack on an Army school in Peshawar in Pakistan.
The Police Commissioner also said on the evening of December 31, people of Delhi come out of their homes to party.

"But no one would be allowed to break the law. Various check points would be put up on that night, teams to check drunken driving would be deployed at various points across the national capital. Strict action would be taken against those who will create nuisance," he said, adding entry to Connaught Place and India Gate areas would be restricted.
Police said all restaurants and pubs have been advised to close their operations on permitted time.
When asked about the action taken by Delhi Police against the constable who allegedly ran over a car on a one-year-old yesterday, Bassi said "as per investigations, it was found that only one policeman was present in the car and he was not in uniform but carrying his uniform in car.

"He was fully drunk at the time of incident. We are also planning to dismiss the constable.
