Maharashtra government will give a compensation of Rs five lakh to the kin of the candidates who died due to heat stroke during a police recruitment drive in Mumbai recently.
Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil today stated in the Legislative Assembly that a compensation of Rs five lakh each will be given to the kin of the four candidates who died due to heat stroke during a police recruitment drive in Mumbai.
"Government will bear the medical expenses of the two candidates who are being treated in the hospitals," Patil added.
He said he had spoken to the officials about holding the physical test before 8 AM.
"Even now, the tests are held before 9.30 AM. We will consider reducing the walking/running test from 5 km to 3 km from the next year. The recruitment drive (this time) had to be held in the summer because model code of conduct for Lok Sabha polls delayed it," he said.
The Home Minister also said the recruitment cannnot be stopped as those who have cleared it could move the courts. "The drive has been completed in 23 districts and 18,000 posts are to be filled," he added.
He also pointed out that in Rajasthan police force, the physical test for candidates involves 10 km running, in Uttar Pradesh it is 4.8 km and in Chhatisgarh it is 15 km.
"This is done to ensure selection of healthy police officers," he added.
