Police summon complainant for questioning

The former driver of a granite firm, who had complained that mentally challenged persons had been given as "human sacrifice" in one of the quarries, has been summoned for questioning, police said today.
DSP Mangaleswaran said that the police had summoned Sevarkodiyan, jeep driver of PRP granites, for questioning at Keezhavalavu Police Station, yesterday. But he informed police as he was in Kochi in Kerala and would come on September 21.
IAS officer U Sagayam, appointed by Madras High Court as Legal Commissioner to probe "illegal" granite quarrying in this district, had ordered digging of some sites following allegations of human sacrifice.
He had ordered digging of the sites at E.Malampatti on the banks of the Manimutharu on a complaint that mentally challenged persons had been given as "human sacrifice" in one of the granite quarries.
During the digging, skeletons of a baby and three men were recovered.
While skeletons of two men were recovered on September 13 that of the baby and another man were recovered in the early hours of Monday.
Sevarkodiyan had complained that he saw two bodies of mentally challenged persons being buried in 1999.
Yesterday, PRP granites owner P R Palanisamy, who was summoned, was questioned. Three others were also questioned over the past four days.
Manager of PRP Granites, Ayappan and quarry-in-charge Jothibasu had appeared on September 15 while another employee Paramasivam the next day.
Their statements have been recorded, police said.
A case had been registered against Palanisamy and some others last week but the company has denied the allegation.
