AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa announced the candidature of the Udumalpet MLA in a party statement here.
Jayaraman, in his third successive term as MLA since 2001, has been nominated by the Chief Minister after the Deputy Speaker's post fell vacant due to the resignation of P Dhanapal who has since been elected as the Speaker.
Election for his Deputy's post will be held on October 29.
An agriculturist by profession, Jayaraman was a Minister in the 2001-06 Jayalalithaa-led government. His election is expected to be a smooth affair on the lines of Dhanapal's due to sheer strength of his party which has 151 MLAs in the 234-member House.
