On the day of scrutiny of nominations for next month's elections, four applications were received by authorities from candidates seeking to eject their rivals from the fray, including chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party's candidate Shridhar Mandrekar has moved the Goa Chief Electoral Officer seeking to reject the nomination of Parsekar (BJP), his immediate rival in Mandrem constituency.
Mandrekar alleged that Parsekar was holding office of profit as Chief minister when he filed his nomination papers.
However, the Returning Officer has ruled out the rejection after receiving response from the CM over the matter.
In a similar complaint, Congress candidate Joseph Sequeira filed a complaint against his rival BJP nominee Michael Lobo who is contesting on Calangute seat.
Sequeira claimed that Lobo was holding the charge as chairman of North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) when he filed his nomination for election.
In his response, Lobo presented his resignation letter from the post (as NGPDA chairman) which was signed before filing the nomination.
In another instance, Goa Forward candidate Vijai Sardesai contesting from Fatorda constituency was accused of filing false information in his affidavit by Congress candidate Joseph Silva.
Avinash Tavares, election agent of Silva, told the Returning Officer that Sardesai had given incorrect information about his assets.
However, the RO refused to entertain the complaint against Sardesai saying the nomination form has all the required entries.
Similar complaint was filed by MGP candidate Sudin Dhavalikar against BJP candidate Pradeep Shet in Madkai constituency.
That complaint too was rejected by the RO.
