"Applications are invited for the post of Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC," the power ministry said on its Website.
The ministry further said the search-cum-selection committee may also make nominations of eligible and qualified candidates for the post.
The government had earlier formed a search panel headed by Power Secretary P K Pujari to shortlist suitable candidates for the post.
After refusing extension to Arup Roy Choudhury as CMD of NTPC, the government gave the additional charge to the power major's Director (technical) A K Jha for three months from September 1.
Jha, 58, is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from BIT Sindri, Ranchi University, and holds LLB from the Delhi University.
He joined NTPC in 1977 as an executive trainee and was directly associated with its flagship project -- Singrauli (5x200 mw).
