Senior police officers of Salboni police station said the landmine was first spotted under a culvert by a patrol team on duty along the road linking Lalgarh with Midnapore.
"Bomb squad and Cobra teams were immediately alerted and the landmine was defused. We had to restrict traffic movement on the road for some time due to security reasons," said an officer.
Samples of the landmine have been sent for forensic tests and a combing operation was on in and around Bhadutala village in connection with the recovery of the powerful explosive, the officer added.
