Mukherjee, who is on a day's visit, will address a meeting organised in connection with the event at the Kerala University Senate Hall, a KPCC release said.
The statue is being installed at a spot in Kannakakunnu palace, one of the main tourist centres in the city.
Later in the day, the President will proceed to Kochi to inaugurate the 150th birth anniversay celebrations of social reformer Ayyan Kali, organised by 'Kerala Pulayar Maha Sabha'.
