Prashanta Adak, the 40-year-old headmaster of Nahala West Board Primary School in Bagnan area, took three girls of class III and IV to an empty room during tiffin hours and was allegedly molesting them.
The villagers, who had suspected that Adak was abusing the students, were alert and noticed this, the police said.
They captured the headmaster, assaulted him, locked him in the room and tried to set the room on fire.
However, after the local panchayat pradhan intervened, the police were called and Adak was arrested.
