Prisoners create ruckus over death of undertrial

Seven personnel of the district jail were injured today, two of them seriously, when an unruly group of prisoners resorted to stone and bricks pelting protesting the death of an undertrial, police said.
An undertrial, who was facing trial under the NDPS Act and had been transferred from Muktsar jail to Faridkot jail a few days back, died this morning due to heart attack, Faridkot Jail Superintendent, J P Singh said.
The deceased undertrial was identified as Harsha Singh (65). Three undertrials lodged in the jail here have died due to various reasons during the past one week.
Angered at another death, the jail inmates lodged strong protests and resorted to stone and brick pelting, leading to injuries to seven personnel, Singh said.

Later, police personnel from Ferozepur and Moga were called, who lobbed teargas shells to bring the situation under control.
The injured were rushed to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College hospital and Civil hospital.
A case has been registered against six jail inmates who started the trouble, the superintendent added.
