Direct selling firm Amway India today said the production from its manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, set up at an investment of about Rs 550 crore, was expected to begin next month.
"The construction of the manufacturing plant in Nilakottai near Madurai is nearing completion. The launch of the first line of production from this facility is expected in March 2015", Amway India said.
The facility is expected to be more stringent in adopting environmental and quality standards following sustainable and energy efficiency practices, it said.
"We are planning to invest Rs 550 crore in this key facility (Nillakottai) which will add to the manufacturing capability of Amway in India. We are keen to make India manufacturing unit a regional export base in near future", Amway India, General Manager, Anshu Budhraja said in a statement.
Observing that the company was keen on making it as "regional export base", he said, "we are targeting to hire 500 employees at the manufacturing site that will double our employee base from 500 to close to 1,000 by end of year".
Besides, the company was also planning to set up one of the biggest roof-top solar plants at the manufacturing site itself in Tamil Nadu.
"Provisions have been made for Rain Water Harvesting as well. The LEED certified manufacturing plant will be a zero discharge waste facility", the company said.
All the sewage shall be disposed to an effluent treatment plant through a sewage treatment plant both located within the premises, it said.
