Government has prepared infrastructural development projects for Puducherry and Karaikal and proposals relating to 14 major works in the two regions have been forwarded to the Centre for approval, Chief Minister N.Rangasamy today informed the territorial assembly.
Replying to a question tabled by A.M.H.Nazeem (DMK) during question time, the Chief Minister said government would develop infrastructure such as massive drinking water projects, underground drainage facilities, roads, bridges and urban development with the aid totalling Rs 2,309.13 crore available from JICA (Japanese International Cooperation Agency), an independent agency of the Japanese Government.
Once the approval of the Centre was secured, government would launch the projects in the two regions.
Opposition Congress legislator from Yanam Malladi Krishna Rao said government should implement developmental projects in Yanam and Mahe regions, the other two constituents of Union Territory."Why should government leave out Mahe and Yanam segments to promote infrastructures with the aid from JICA."
The Chief Minister told the member that "everyone knows how ideally Yanam had developed in all sectors. We can call Yanam a 'mini Singapore' considering the development over the years," he said and hastened to add government would however hold the scales even and ensure balanced development of Yanam and Mahe.
Congress legislator from Mahe E.Valsaraj said government should not leave out Mahe as its contribution to the state ex-chequer was around Rs 100 crore every year.
Rangasamy assured the member that there would be balanced care of all the four regions.
