"It is a very irresponsible news published in Dainik Jagran...We will lodge an FIR against the newspaper," DIG (Moradabad Range) Shailendra Pratap Singh said.
ADM Praveen Mishra said members of the minority community demonstrated at various places in the city, including Mandi Chowk market, against the news article published in Danik Jagran's Moradabad edition today.
However, no violence was reported from any part of the city and the situation is under control, he said.
Meanwhile, Dainik Jagran Moradabad edition city news editor Mrigang Pandey said, "It is very unfortunate and we apologise for the news published. Our intention was not to hurt the sentiment of any community."
Mufti Ayub, a preacher at a local Madarsa, appealed to protesters to maintain peace.
