Delhi University's law faculty today witnessed violent protests by students forcing the authorities to announce suspension of classes till Monday.
Students have been sitting on an indefinite hunger strike for the past few weeks against the closure of evening classes and over the issue of mass failure in semester examinations.
Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) president Amit Tanwar allegedly locked Law Faculty Dean Ved Kumari inside her office and allegedly broke a window next to it after she refused to speak to the Vice-Chancellor regarding the protest and the demands raised by the students.
Tanwar, however, denied the allegations.
The students burnt effigy of the Dean and allegedly smashed the administration office.
The authorities maintained that they had informed police about the incident and classes have been suspended till Monday.
"There has been police presence during the strike. We haven't received any complaint in the matter," said a senior police officer.
