A PTTI (Primary Teachers'
Training Institute) student drowned in Damodar today triggering protests by locals who damaged a police jeep and blocked nearby road at Galsi in Burdwan district.
A police officer said the locals alleged the drowned youth Partho Dutta (20) could have been rescued had police initiated prompt rescue operations and refused police to take the body for post-mortem.
However, police managed to pacify the agitators and the blockade was lifted.
