Pulses prices climb on tight supply, firm demand

Amid paucity of stocks on tight supplies from producing belts against rising demand from retailers, prices of pulses surged up to Rs 500 per quintal at the wholesale market today.
Traders said apart from tight supplies due to restricted arrivals from producing regions, rising demand from retailers mainly led to the rise in pulses prices.
Expectations of lower output this year due to unseasonal rains in growing regions and costlier imports due to depreciating rupee too influenced the sentiment, they said.
In the national capital, gram climbed to Rs 4,500-5500 from previous level of Rs 4,200-5,000 per quintal. Its dal local and best quality were up by Rs 400 each to 5,000-5,200 and Rs 5,100-5,400 per quintal respectively. Kabli gram small variety shot up to Rs 4,800-7,000 from last close of Rs 4,350-6,650 per quintal.
Lobia gained Rs 400 to Rs 5,200-5,600 per quintal.
Rajmah chitra edged up to Rs 4,600-6,100 as compared to previous level of Rs 4,600-5,900 per quintal.
Urad and its dal chilka local moved up by Rs 200 each to Rs 8,000-8,500 and Rs 8,900-9,100 per quintal. Its dal best quality and dhoya were up by a similar margin to Rs 9,100-9,700 and 9,500-9,800 per quintal respectively.
Moong and its dal chilka local were up by Rs 200 each to Rs 7,700-8,400 and Rs 8,500-9,000 per quintal. Its dal dhoya local and best quality enquired higher by a similar margin to Rs 8,500-8,800 and Rs 9,300-9,400 per quintal respectively.
Masoor small and bold traded sharply higher by Rs 300 each to Rs 6,600-6,800 and Rs 6,600-6,900 per quintal. Its dal local and best quality rose by a similar margin to Rs 7,700-7,800 and Rs 7,800-7,900 per quintal. Malka local and best quality followed suit and flared up by Rs 500 each to Rs 8,100-8,300 and Rs 8,300-8,400 per quintal.
In line with overall firm trend, moth prices rose by Rs 200 to Rs 6,300-6,600 per quintal. Arhar and its dal data variety surged by Rs 400 each to Rs 7,300-7,350 and Rs 8,650-8,950 per quintal respectively.
Besan Shaktibhog and Rajdhani quoted higher at Rs 1,950 instead of Rs 1,900 per 35 kg bag respectively.
