India-born Punit Renjen has taken over as the chief executive officer of Deloitte Global and plans to boost the accounting major's capabilities in various areas, including cognitive technologies and cloud computing.
Renjen has become the first Indian-origin person to head a 'Big-Four' audit firm and joins the list of persons of Indian origin like Indira Nooyi, Satya Nadella and Anshu Jain, who have made to the top posts at multi-billion dollar global corporations.
He assumed charge as CEO of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd (Deloitte Global) on Monday. In February, the consulting firm had announced his appointment.
According to a statement issued by Deloitte, Renjen has framed a set of strategic priorities, including increasing investment to apply leading technology to serve clients across core businesses of audit, tax, consulting, enterprise risk and financial advisory services.
"All of Deloitte's stakeholders -- clients, colleagues and the communities in which we work -- expect us to make an impact that matters for them... That means we must commit to achieve clear leadership in critical areas through very focused priorities," Renjen said.
Besides, he plans to grow Deloitte network's capabilities in areas such as cognitive technologies, cloud computing, digital and social applications, cyber, risk, and crisis services, the statement said.
"We are committed to building and maintaining trust in capital markets and confidence in business institutions.
"We will do this by combining insights and innovation to deliver fully integrated tax services, world-class innovation in audit, and consulting services that deliver measurable impact," he added.
