Punjab govt has failed to construct Shahpur dam: JK govt

This had forced Jammu and Kashmir to construct its own canal on river Ravi for getting water for irrigation purposes, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control minister Sham Lal Sharma told a seminar here.

It was on January 20, 1979 when then Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah signed an agreement with his Punjab counterpart Prakash Singh Badal for creation of Shahpur Kandi barrage.

Punjab did nothing to construct the Shahpur Kandi dam which would have helped Jammu and Kashmir get Ravi waters for irrigation.
