Punjab government would soon institute an award dedicated to the founder of Namdhari Sect Satguru Ram Singh during his ongoing year-long bi-centennial birth celebrations.
The decision was taken by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal while presiding over a meeting of the state-level committee to review the arrangements for the year-long bi-centennial birth celebrations of Satguru Ram Singh that started from February 12 here, an official spokesman said.
Badal said a high-powered delegation of SAD-BJP MPs from Punjab would soon call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to impress upon him for the celebrations at the national level in recognition to Singh's contribution in the national freedom struggle.
It may be recalled that few MPs had already flagged up this issue with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Badal said in the meeting that he would soon take up the matter with the Centre for issuing a commemorate coin of Rs 200 and Rs 10 denomination besides releasing a commemorative postage stamp on this occasion.
To perpetuate the philosophy and works of the Satguru among future generations, he asked the Education department to hold a series of seminars and declamation contests at the district level to ensure the participation of students from schools and colleges of the state.
He also directed Vice Chancellors of Punjabi University, Patiala and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar to also organise seminars and symposiums on the ideology of Baba Ram Singh by inviting eminent scholars and academicians.
Badal said that Singh's house at his birthplace in village Rayian of Ludhiana district, would be spruced up and beautified properly besides ensuring all round development of the village.
