Punjab and Haryana would observe the Armed Forces Flag Day on December 6 to commemorate bravery and supreme sacrifices of the soldiers and to collect fund from people for the welfare of armed forces personnel.
It would be observed on December 6 instead of December 7, an official spokesman of Punjab said, adding that the day is observed to salute the velour of soldiers both serving and veterans, who fought for unity, integrity and sovereignty.
The spokesman appealed to the public to contribute liberally for Armed Forces Flag Day fund. The ceremonial pinning of Flags on VIPs and all citizens of India would take place on December 6.
All departments and district administration would give a lead in honouring soldiers and in pinning flags on students and citizens.
The spokesman further said financial contributions were to be collected by the department in honour of the flag.
These funds are utilised for a number of welfare programmes instituted by the Kendriya and Rajya Sainik Boards.
The contributions provide benefits to widows, disabled soldiers, ex-servicemen and serving personnel. The total number of people who would be benefited by this fund was over a crore, he said.
An official spokesman of Haryana government said token flag and car stickers would be distributed to the public in return for their voluntary donations to the Flag Day Fund on the occasion.
However, in view of the increasing financial requirement to run the welfare schemes for defence personnel, efforts would be made to mobilise maximum contributions.
All the Heads of Department and Deputy Commissioners, Registrar Punjab and Haryana High Court, All District and Sessions judges, Sub Divisional Officer (Civil) and Registrars of all universities have been asked to extend cooperation to the collection of contributions and ensure that a proper account of token flags and stickers was maintained, he said.
