To train girls who are willing to join armed forces, the Punjab government has established a "state-of-art" institute in Mohali, on the outskirts of the state capital.
The institute is on the lines of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute to train the male cadets.
"The state-of-the art complex set up on a piece of eight acres of land in Sector 66, Mohali, is all set be operational by July and the admission process will start in May," said Major General B S Grewal (retd), Director MRSAFP Institute.
He said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal wanted that the girls of Punjab should get an equal opportunity to join the forces and had earlier sanctioned setting up of the institute, which would have separate training facility for the girl cadets.
"This institute will train girls at the college level over a period of three years as they will pursue their graduation studies simultaneously.
"During the two year course at the +1 and +2 level, focused training will be imparted by experts including retired service officers and erstwhile Group Testing Officers and the psychologists to prepare cadets for the NDA Entrance Examination and Services Selection Board.
"A lot of emphasis will be laid on personality development, soft skills and communications and leadership training," he said.
