Somdev Devvarman and Garbine Muguruza, the singles stars in the Punjab Marshalls team, today exuded confidence of putting up a strong show in the Champions Tennis League (CTL), as they prepare to take on Delhi Dreams, here tomorrow.
"Punjab team is very strong, tough to beat. It's a high energy kind of format," Somdev, who will lock horns with world number 16 Kevin Anderson in the men's singles, said.
Somdev, who has lost both of his previous matches against Anderson, is though expecting all the matches to be "very close".
"Having Leander on our team is going to be a huge boost in mixed doubles as well as doubles. I have never played with Leander so I am really excited to teaming up with him," Somdev, ranked 139, said.
Garbine Muguruza, world number 20 from Spain, endorsed Somdev's view.
"It's going to be tough, but I'm here to win. This team has the best Indian players, I was really happy to see that. The crowd is all going to cheer for us," the 21-year-old said.
"We have a good team but is very important to work and fight all matches because the other teams are also very strong. The level is very high with very important names competing in this fun format," Muguruza said.
Punjab will host Mumbai on November 20 and Delhi on November 21.
