Speaking at ICMR's annual Oration Recognising Excellence in Health Research here, ICMR Director General, Sowmya Swaminathan noted that the quest for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) vaccine was still a scientific challenge.
Representatives of the Central government also apprised about the challenges in proper diagnosis of HIV patients and helping them get rid of the stigma associated with the disease.
Salim Abdool Karim, Director of Centre for the Aids Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA) and Glenda Gray, President of South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) presented their research work on HIV being conducted in South Africa at the event.
