Lokayukta police today raided three premises of a 45-year-old food department officer and seized cash, jewellery and documents of properties allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Based on a complaint that Ashwini Nayak, a junior food officer in Khandwa district, had allegedly amassed wealth through corrupt means, a raid was conducted at his Indore residence and his premises in the nearby Rau town and Khandwa, Lokayukta's Deputy Superintendent of Police V S Parihar said.
Nayak is on leave since over a year, he said.
"We recovered Rs 18 lakh cash, jewellery worth around Rs 5 lakh and household stuff of Rs 35 lakh from Nayak's residence," he said.
The assets include three plots of land, a multi-storey building, a house and three flats, he said.
Nayak is also accused of running two gymnasiums and a cooking gas agency in the name of his family members, he said.
"We are conducting a detailed evaluation of his assets. Right now the total value of his disproportionate wealth is not clear," Parihar said.
The investigators have also received information about Nayak's eight bank accounts and they are trying to find out the amount deposited in them, he said.
Lokayukta police have registered a case against Nayak under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and are further investigating the matter.
