Rains effect sharp fall in mercury in Himachal Pradesh

The lower hills of Himachal Pradesh reeling under heatwave had some respite today as the mercury plummeted following widespread rains across the state.
The high-altitude tribal areas had another spell of mild snowfall causing sharp fall in mercury in tribal valleys, the weather department said.
The day temperatures dropped from 42.6 to 34.0 degrees Celsius at Una after 7 mm of rains.
Sundernagar recorded a high of 28.5 degrees Celsius, down from yesterday's 35.6, while and Bhuntar registered 25 as against 33.0 the previous day.
Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 11.3 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 26.3 after 2.5 mm rains.
Amb and Bijhali were wettest places in the region with 23 mm rains, while Keylong in tribal Lahaul and Spiti, which received 22 mm rains, experienced snowfall and minimum temperature dipping to 3.9 degrees Celsius.
Ghumarwin and Sundernagar had 19 mm rains, followed by Kumarsein and Kalpa (18), Pandoh (15),Jhandutta and Bajaura (14), Sarahan (12) and Mandi (11).
The day temperatures dropped to 33.3 degrees Celsius at Nahan, 32 at Solan, 31.6 at Dharamsala and 26.3 at Shimla.
Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district recorded a low of6 degrees Celsius, while Manali recorded minimum temperature at 8.6 followed byNahan (13.1), Dharamsala (16.1), Sundernagar, Palampur and Bhuntar (all 15).
The MeT office here has predicted rains or thundershowers at isolated places in mid and lower hills and rains or snow in higher hills over next four days due to fresh Western Disturbances.
