Rains lash Telangana, make farmers happy

With the South-West monsoon active in the State, many places in Telangana received good rainfall during the last two days, bringing cheer to farmers as agricultural activities gained momentum.

The IMD in its daily weather report of Telangana at 8.30 AM today, said heavy rainfall (seven to 11 cms) was received in isolated places.

Several other places received either light or moderate (2 to 6 cms) rainfall, the report said.

Mogullapalle in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district received 10 cms of rainfall, followed by Sirpur in Kumaram Bheem district (6 cms), it said.

Normal life was thrown out of gear at some areas of Asifabad and other districts. Low-lying areas were inundated and water bodies, including streams, were in spate following the rains, it added.

The agricultural-sowing activity is expected to gain momentum following the rainfall, official sources said.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao yesterday directed the administration to remain alert in view of the heavy rains forecast for the next few days, an official press release said.

Rao had directed Chief Secretary S K Joshi to issue instructions to all officials concerned to be in their respective workplaces and coordinate with all the departments in taking up relief measures, the release said.

Rao instructed ministers to be available in their respective districts to monitor the relief activities, it added.
