Raj police constable jailed for taking bribe

An Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) court here today sent a Rajasthan police constable to 14 days in jail for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000.

Narendra Singh was caught red handed by an officer of ACB, Kota yesterday while he was allegedly accepting the money.

A resident of Kota city and posted at Borekheda police station, Singh had demanded the bribe from Mohammad Amin, a resident of Premnagar area, ACB inspector Ajit Bagdoliya told.

The constable had on late Wednesday night detained Rajesh Rathore and seized his auto on suspicion of him possessing a sharp weapon, he added.

Rathore's friend Amin approached Singh who initially demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 to release the auto but after negotiations, the amount was settled at Rs 30,000, Bagdoliya said.

However, Amin expressed his inability to pay the full amount in one go hence, the constable agreed to accept an installment of Rs 10,000 with the assurance that the remaining amount would be paid to him by the next day, he added.

Amin yesterday reported the matter to the ACB following which verification of the complaint was carried out and the constable was arrested from outside the police station, Bagdoliya said.

The accused revealed that a share of the bribe was supposed to be given to head constable Bhanwar Singh and Borekheda police station SHO Mahavir Yadav, the ACB inspector said, adding that the allegation was being looked into.

The accused was produced before the ACB court that sent him to 14 days of judicial custody in jail till August 14, the ACB inspector said, Bagdoliya said.

Singh had not seized the auto on record but kept it parked at the police station, he added.
