Rajasthan can help country in green building concepts:

Rajasthan minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar today said the state had taken several initiatives to implement green building concepts and could help the country in the area.
Rajasthan can play an important role in helping the country to achieve the Green Building Congress's vision of 10 billion sq ft of green built up environment by 2022, he said.
"India is currently the secondlargest country in the world with green building footprint of 4.68 billion sq ft and has the potential to be the world leader," the minister said.
The Rajasthan Forest and Environment minister was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 15th edition of the Green Building Congress here.
Khimsar said the state had taken several measures and a had a leadership role in the area of green building concept.
State Industry Minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat said that the state government is committed to facilitate sustainable development.
"The government has introduced a slew of measures in this direction. The state has already 83 IGBC registered projects with a footprint of 103 million sq ft of green buildings making Rajasthan the role model," he said.
V Suresh, Chairman of Policy and Advocacy Committee, IGBC, insisted that the green building movement should not just be urban centric, but it should reach villages and rural parts of the country.
"Our efforts have been to create opportunities for market transformation and make green building affordable to ensure greater participation," he said.
The CEO of the World Green Building Council, Terri Wills, and others were present at the event which was attended by over 2,000 delegates.
