Goa Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar today said rapists should be hanged till death, as was the case in Dubai.

"Rapists should not be forgiven. If you ask my opinion, those who rape should be hanged till death," he said.

The minister was responding to a query on the recent rape of a 20-year-old woman near the Dabolim aiport in Goa allegedly by a taxi driver.

"But in a democracy, it does not happen. What happens in Dubai doesn't happen here. This should happen (in India) and only then rapists would be scared," Ajgaonkar said.

The minister said what happened near the Dabolim airport was very serious and promised action in the case.

Speaking further, Ajgaonkar said the police were not serious towards curbing the drug menace in Goa.

"There should be no compromise on drugs. I have been speaking against it since I became an MLA but no action has been taken yet," the minister said.

Ajgaonkar said he had given detailed information to police officers about drug activities but nothing has been done so far.

"There is a godfather of drug activities in Goa but we don't know who he is," he said.
