Amidst reports that Congress is preparing grounds for removal of Upa Lokayukta Subhash Adi in line with Lokayukta Y Bhaskar Rao, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today said he will discuss with party legislators on the matter.
"I will discuss with them (Congress legislators) tomorrow. I have been told that there are some charges against him (Adi). I will discuss with them tomorrow," Siddaramaiah told reporters in Gadag district.
He however declined to comment on charges against Adi.
Former Upa Lokayukta S B Majage had earlier alleged that Adi had closed a case of misconduct against a medical officer from Hubballi, which was actually a case handled by him.
Following this, some Congress leaders had demanded Adi's resignation. They had also alleged that the medical officer was a relative of Leader of Opposition Jagadish Shettar during whose tenure as Chief Minister Adi was appointed as Upa Lokayukta.
Congress Legislature Party meeting has been called tomorrow morning, where Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is likely to take a final call, a senior Congress leader said.
A motion seeking removal of controversial Karnataka Lokayukta Y Bhaskar Rao over an alleged extortion racket in the anti-graft ombudsman's office involving his son will be moved in the state Assembly tomorrow.
Setting the ball rolling for removal of Rao, Opposition parties on November 10 had petitioned the Speaker in this regard, with 46 members of BJP and 37 of JD(S) signing the plea. Ruling Congress on Friday had informed Speaker that they will also be submitting a petition in support of the motion.
In a similar act, Opposition parties had also petitioned Legislative Council Chairman seeking removal of Lokayukta.
With Congress too in support of the motion, it is likely to be adopted unanimously.
