As India celebrates its 73rd Independence Day on Thursday, restaurants in Delhi and Gurgaon will go all out with discounts, freedom special buffets, and tricolour-themed meals and decor.

SodaBottleOpenerWala, a Parsi restaurant chain with outlets in Delhi-NCR, will give a discount of a whopping 72 per cent on the bill if a guest is accompanied by a grandparent aged 72 years and above.

The restaurant chain, which has an outlet in Delhi's posh Khan Market, has even created a special event, '72 Wali Party', to promote the offer on Facebook. A promotional poster shows three elderly Parsis dancing.

Seventy-two signifies the number of years since independence.

The Cafe at Hyatt Regency in central Delhi is also offering a 50 per cent discount on buffet lunch and dinner.

"A lot of people have already made their bookings at the restaurant," a Hyatt Regency official told PTI, adding that customers can avail the discount till August 17.

The iconic Imperial Hotel in Janpath will be offering a 'freedom special' lunch buffet at its restaurant '1911' with tricolour-themed items on the menu.

Curated thalis, inclusive of a four-course menu, will also be on offer.

The Independence Day fervour is also running high in the national capital's neighbouring Gurgaon.

Viet:nom, a fine dining Vietnamese restaurant in Cyber Hub, will welcome guests with elaborate I-Day-themed decorations. The restaurant has been decked up with tiny national flags, lights and other paraphernalia.

The restaurant will also offer tricolour savoury and sweet delicacies to its customers.

One of the highlights of the restaurant's I-Day special menu is the tricoloured panna cotta -- a dessert made with flavours of matcha, saffron and vanilla -- and dimsums.

Additionally, Viet:nom will be offering a range of desserts for Rs 73.

"We are all about embracing different cultures and celebrating the spirit of love, harmony and joyous feasts together," Viet:nom said on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

Zambar, a restaurant known for its south Indian cuisine, is also offering a special buffet to mark the occasion.

A range of I-Day special desserts at Zambar will include moong dal halwa, payasam, Mysore pak, tiranga barfi and a tricoloured pastry.

With I-Day and the festival of Raksha Bandhan falling on the same day this year, Taj City Centre, Gurgaon, is marking the day with one plus one offers on pre-designed menus and themed brunch and dinner buffets at its restaurants.
