Col (retd) Biraj Sahay was one of the many winners who were given different prizes by the police commissioner for actively taking part in the 'Traffic Sentinel scheme'.
"Today is my wedding anniversary and I am out of Delhi. There couldn't have been a better anniversary gift for my wife. I stay in Vasant Kunj and made more than 100 videos and uploaded it on the app," said Sahay who couldn't attend the programme in person.
Those who had earned more than 50 points were rewarded with movie tickets, plane tickets, motorcycle and scooty.
Twenty-three-year-old Kavita, who won a scooty, claimed she had sent more than 10,000 videos.
"I had lost my cousin two years back to a road accident in Alwar. He was driving on the right side but a car coming from the wrong side hit and he died on the spot," she said.
"When this scheme was launched, I used to go out in the morning after dropping my son to playschool and make videos of violators. It is not easy to make videos or click pictures. On some occasions, I was caught and threatened," she added.
Under the Traffic Sentinel scheme launched by the Delhi Traffic Police last December, users can report traffic violations by uploading photos and videos through a mobile app and earn reward points.
Apart from the felicitation ceremony, the programme also acted as a platform where nearly 250 sentinels shared their grievances over the state of traffic in Delhi with Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma.
The Commissioner assured them that their queries and feedback would be taken.
"Traffic sentinels can greatly help in reducing the visible traffic offences like driving without helmet, triple riding, driving without seatbelt etc.," said Verma.
