Handicraft fair generates enquiries worth Rs 2,950 cr

Business enquiries worth Rs 2,950 crore were generated at handicrafts fair IHGF Delhi Fair Autumn 2016, which concluded here today.
The fair was organised by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH).
Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director - EPCH, said total participating countries (overseas business visitors) stood at 88, while 2,980 exhibitors showcased their products in 14 segments like home, lifestyle, fashion, gifts and furniture.
The number of product lineswere over 2,000 this year.
Around 5,586 overseas buyers and their representatives participated in the fair.
Kumar said considering that the overall handicrafts exports stood at Rs 21,457.91 crore in 2015-16, the fair contributed to roughly 14 per cent of yearly exports.
It has become a major marketing platform to boost exports of small and medium entrepreneurs.
D Kumar, Chairman - EPCH, said the maximum buyers came from US at 636, followed by Germany (305), UK (295), Australia (290), France (252), Japan (205) and China (122).
Chinese buyers are recognising the Indian USP of "handmade" and the number of buyers from China has been steadily increasing over the years.
This year, online portals of China were also present and there is anticipation of regular business from this category.
This year new buyers also came in from countries as diverse as Tunisia, Syria, Cyprus, Krygystan and Panama.
The display of recycled products, natural fibres, and innovative designs on lighting products were very well received by global buyers and considerable interest has been generated in these categories.
Artisans participated from clusters like Jodhpur (wooden handicrafts) and Narsapur (lace crafts).
Ajay Shankar Memorial Awardsfor the best designed and displayed stands were distributed on concluding day in six product categories -- Fashion Jewellery & Accessories, Lamps & Lighting products, Houseware, Decorative and Gifts, Candles and Incense, Furniture and accessories.
Two awards -- one gold and silver in each category -- were given.
