Police in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra have registered a case of rioting and assault against Congress MLA Abdul Sattar and 29 others.
Mukhtar Sattar Shaikh (29), a farmer from Dahigaon Shivar in Sillod tehsil of the district, had lodged a complaint that Sattar and his supporters assaulted him and drove him out of his field on June 12.
The alleged incident took place when Mukhtar was busy sowing in his field.
Video of the incident, captured on mobile phone, went viral on Internet.
Shaikh also alleged that in the past, the MLA, misusing his political clout, had grabbed his land and built a farm house on it by manipulating land records.
Sillod rural police late yesterday night registered a case against the MLA Sattar and 29 others for rioting and assault under the IPC, said the sub-divisional police officer Neeraj Rajguru.
Also, a separate case under section 295-A of IPC (hurting religious sentiments) was registered against the MLA for certain statements made by him (as heard in the video) during the incident. A complaint in this regard was lodged by another farmer, a resident of Borgaon in the tehsil.
Nobody has been arrested in the two cases yet. Probe is on.
