In a bid to put a lid on the controversy over his alleged disrespect towards State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, ADGP Rishiraj Singh greeted the minister at a function here with folded hands.
Singh, who was not in his uniform, got up from his seat and greeted the minister with folded hands as he arrived at a function yesterday.
The two, who were meeting publicly for the first time after the controversy broke, shared the dais with other police officers at the function to mark the inauguration of a traffic awareness programme at nearby Akullam.
While Jail IG Loknath Behara, who was also not in his uniform, stood in attention seeing the minister, Singh greeted Chennithala with folded hands.
Chennithala, who had stated that he had no complaints with regard to Singh's behaviour, warmly shook hands with the 1985 batch IPS officer and moved on to the dais.
Singh had courted controversy after he failed to acknowledge the presence of the Home Minister the passing out parade of women police personnel at the Police Academy in Thrissur on Saturday.
When the Home Minister made his entry at the function, Singh, in charge of Armed Forces Battalion, who was seated on a sofa, continued to do so and did not proceed to welcome the minister or salute him. The officer had later clarified that the minister had entered through the rear side of the venue which he had failed to notice.
His explanation that he was a guest at the function and as per protocol was supposed to stand only when the national anthem is played, did not go down well with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who has said 'suitable action' will be taken against the official.
