Left Front chairman Biman Bose today defended party's new Rajya Sabha MP Ritabrata Banerjee, rubbishing Trinamool Congress' allegations that the leader had heckled Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Delhi last year.
"He (Ritabrata) didn't attack Mamata. They had gone there for a protest. They didn't go to hurt anyone but people from outside had joined," Bose, who is the CPI(M)'s state secretary, told reporters here.
State finance minister Amit Mitra was manhandled and heckled while Banerjee faced ire of Left activists outside the Yojana Bhavan in New Delhi last April while protesting the death of a SFI worker in Kolkata.
Ritabrata, who is the CPI(M) student wing SFI's general secretary, was among the six arrested in the case later on by the Delhi Police.
He was yesterday elected to the Rajya Sabha.
