Residents of Dattapukur in North 24-Parganas district today put up blockade in a highway demanding peace in the area after two groups of brick kiln operators clashed yesterday, the police said.
People blocked Barrackpore-Barasat Road after the unrest in the locality following the clash at Jagannathpur.
The locals were demanding police picket and other measures to contain violence in the area, the police said.
"The agitators also threw stones at the police, but nobody was injured. The police have been carrying out raids in the area to arrest the members of the warring groups," Superintendent of Police Tanmay Roychowdhury said.
