While handing down the jail term, Additional Sessions Judge Vikas Dhull held Manjeet (21) and his brother Mandeep (24) guilty of trying to murder Virender by attacking him with a sharp weapon in 2011 due to which he had received serious injuries.
"The evidence of Virender is cogent and trustworthy with regard to he being assaulted by a sharp weapon by both accused in pursuant to their common intention," the judge said while relying on the testimony of the victim.
While awarding the jail term to the convicts, the court observed that "it is apparent that aggravating circumstances far outweigh the mitigating circumstances and a case for taking a strict view is made out in sentencing the convicts."
The court, however, acquitted Manjeet and Mandeep of the charges of abduction (section 367) and wrongful confinement (section 342) under the IPC due to lack of evidence.
According to the prosecution, on the night of July 1, 2011, Manjeet and Mandeep came to the house of their friend Virender in Dwarka, took him away on their bike after which they stabbed him on his neck and head with a sharp "knife-like" object.
