MACT presiding officer Kiran Bansal directed Reliance General Insurance Company Ltd, insurer of the tanker, to pay Rs 8,70,466 to Imran Khan who was injured in the road accident in December 2011.
"Award is passed directing Reliance General Insurance Company Ltd, to pay a sum of Rs 8,70,466 (including interim compensation) in the name of injured (Khan) by way of depositing cheque in the tribunal...," the tribunal said.
According to the petition, on December 24, 2011 around 4:30 PM, the tanker, driven by Suran Singh in a rash and negligent manner, hit Khan in Ghaziabad.
As a result, he fell down on the road and sustained grievous injuries. Later, he was taken to a hospital for treatment and was discharged on February 7, 2012.
The driver of the offending vehicle did not appear before the tribunal and was proceeded ex-parte.
