Rockers Blind Melon have settled a lawsuit over their hit song "No Rain."
The bandmates launched a copyright infringement lawsuit against singer Mandy Jiroux in August last year, claiming she used elements of the song to record her own tune, titled "Insane," after they gave her permission to cover the 1992 track, according to Billboard.
Jiroux's manager Kenneth Komisar reportedly contacted Blind Melon's manager Keith Isola in May last year, and explained his client had recorded a cover of "No Rain," but, after hearing the track, the band concluded the song was not a cover and decided not to license it, take co-writer credits, or collect a portion of the publishing money.
Komisar was reportedly informed in June and the parties had a conference call, during which the bandmates told him they were no longer going to grant permission for the song to be licensed.
The song was subsequently released and Jiroux claimed the Blind Melon members "loved the song so much I'm the only artist that they've ever let use that classic hook".
The group sued for a permanent injunction, profits from the Insane track and damages, but the bandmates were hit with a countersuit from Jiroux in November.
She claimed she did receive permission to record her version of the song. She also alleged the band was breaching a license agreement.
The parties have now reached an undisclosed settlement.
