Rajasthan police today announced a cash reward of Rs one lakh for information on wanted criminal Anandpal Singh following failed efforts to nab him, a day after he along with two others escaped from police custody.
Director General of Police Manoj Bhatt announced reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to arrest of Anandpal, and Rs 50,000 each for the other two - Subhash Moond and Srivallabh - after police failed to gather any credible information of their whereabouts.
"Their arrest is our priority and we are making all efforts for it," DGP Manoj Bhatt told PTI.
"There were lapses in security yesterday and action against the guilty officers will be taken on the basis of the detailed report," Bhatt said.
Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria today in Bikaner admitted that lapses in security led to the escape and guilty officers will be punished.
"Our priority is to catch them as soon as possible," the Home Minister told reporters.
Inspector General of Police (Ajmer range) Malini Agrawal said that teams have been sent to different places in search of the accused and intense search operation in the entire range was on.
Meanwhile, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot questioned the role of a state minister for his alleged connection with Anandpal Singh and demanded a high-level inquiry in the matter.
Without naming anyone, he alleged that the Minister met Anandpal in June last year when he was lodged in Bikaner jail, after which a gang war took place in the jail which left three members of Anandpal's rival gang dead.
"Escape of Anandpal and other criminals is a big question mark on the law and order situation. The Home Minister looks helpless and he has lost control over his department," Gehlot said in a statement, demanding a high level inquiry.
