The two-day exercise by police to check their preparedness to fend off terror activities, 'Operation Hamla', paid some rich dividends, with police recovering Rs 11 lakh of unaccounted cash from two persons during checks today.
In separate incidents, Mohammed Thambi and Sriramulu were found carrying cash Rs seven lakh and Rs six lakh respectively, a city police release here said.
Both of them had no proper documents to support carrying such amounts of cash and were detained for interrogation, it said, adding, they were held by special teams formed to keep an eye on passengers at the Koyambedu bus terminus.
The teams had been formed as part of the police's exercise to self-evaluate its preparedness in preventing terror activities and nab 'terrorists'.
Incidentally, unaccounted gold biscuits weighing 8.5 kg and 12 kg of silver were seized from two persons here during the routine two-day drill yesterday.
'Operation Hamla (Attack)' went underway yesterday and so far 26 'terrorists', i.E. Designated cops masquerading as terrorists targeting vital installations, have been 'held', the release said.
While 21 of them were nabbed yesterday, five of them were caught near the naval installation INS Adyar here today, the release said.
Personnel of Police, Coast Guard, Coastal Security Group and 'Q' branch besides fisheries department officials were involved in the mock anti-terrorist exercise.
