Rs 15.90 lakh unaccounted cash was seized by police from a car, a day after the Model Code of Conduct came into effect with the announcement of Lok Sabha poll schedule.
The money was seized on National Highway near Chaheru from the car driven by Dalbir Singh, a resident of Chauki Mann, Mullanpur Dakha, DSP Jasbir Singh Rai said.
"Since Dalbir could not show any money receipt or give any satisfactory reply, the amount was handed over to Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax department was informed for investigation," he said.
Police said strict vigil would be kept on the movement of cash as the Model Code has come into force.
