Muzaffarpur Zonal Inspector General (IG) Paras Nath and District Magistrate Anupam Kumar handed over cheques of Rs 46,000 to each of the surrendered Maoists.
"These persons were earlier involved in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) but had surrendered before the police. According to the Union and state government policies, we provide them a sum of Rs 3,000 per month and Rs 10,000 as encouragement money. The cheques that we gave them today included these two components for the last one year," the IG said.
The IG also said all the beneficiaries hail from different parts of Muzaffarpur district and were earlier involved in several incidents of Maoist violence like arson, extortion, loot, and attacks on police at various places in Bihar and Jharkhand.
